Our planet is a closed system in which living organisms thrive: a biosphere where nothing enters or exists except sunlight. Your Beachworld is a miniature biosphere, encapsulating the fundamental workings of our own Earth. Inside your Beachworld, Red shrimps are sustained in a marine environment. You do not have to feed the shrimps or change their water. It's the perfect pet! Nothing enters or leaves the container, such as food, air,water or waste. 
The only elements required are light and heat. light causes the micro algae to produce the oxygen and food for the shrimps, which in turn produce carbon dioxide and nutrients for the algae to grow.

Life Cycle:A complex interplay between plants, animals and the environment maintains a delicate balance. Energy from the Sun drives biospheric cycles, promoting plant and animal growth, causing plants to undergo a process called photosynthesis which uses the energy from light to turn carbon dioxide into oxygen. In return, the animals generate carbon dioxide and nutrients needed by the plants.This exchange takes place in a nutrient-enriched aquatic environment, which is the essence of the technology.Everything is recycled; nothing is wasted!
 

Invention

Paragon was started in 1993 by two of the original Biospherians, Ms. Jane Poynter and Mr. Taber MacCallum, who were the principle designers of the agricultural areas and analytical systems inside Biosphere 2. They lived and worked in the closed ecological system for two years. The glass and steel structure, located in Oracle, Arizona, covers 3.15 acres and contains several different environments including rain forest, savanna, desert, marsh and ocean. Upon completion of the Biosphere 2 project, Ms. Poynter and Mr. MacCallum pursued the research and design of miniature biospheres as scientific instruments for environmental test and control applications. The elegant solution of balanced ecosystem they developed resulted in the Bio-Sphere. The patented processes used to build the Bio-Sphere are the same as those used to build Bio-Spheres that have flown in Space on NASA's Space Shuttle and the Russian Space Station MIR.

What lives inside your Beachworld?
The residents of your Beachworld are shrimps that are found only on certain Hawaiian islands. These shrimps are called Opae'ula (scientific name Halocaridina Rubra) and they inhabit the inland pools that are found in lava rock. Deep red layers of algae line the walls of these pools, along with other types of macro algae. The Opae'ula does not eat the algae, but rather maintain it, eating the micro algae and bacteria that grows on the layers of algae. They are literally the gardeners of their environment, maintaining the balance within the pools, keeping them clean so that the large algae can thrive. In your Beachworld you can see the Opae'ula grazing and grooming themselves and even carrying the odd piece of sand! If the shrimps are disturbed they tend to temporarily loose their bright red colour in an attempt to blend in with their background. Once they have settled they will turn red again.

Se i gamberetti vengono disturbati tendono a perdere temporaneamente il colore rosso vivace nel tentativo di confondersi con la sabbia. Una volta che si sono calmati ridiventano ben presto rossi.

E' stato inoltre inserito all'interno un rametto di Gorgonia spiaggiata, per ricreare perfettamente l'ambiente in cui vivono.

Beachworld ist ein völlig geschlossenes Ökosystem - eine Minaturwelt, welche Einblick in das Leben unter Wasser gibt. 
Die Bewohner der Beachworld sind Krebse (Garnelen), welche man vorwiegend bei Lavafelsen findet! Die Krebse ernähren sich von Mikroalgen und Bakterien, welche auf Algenmatten wachsen. Sie halten das Gleichgewicht des "Teichs" aufrecht und halten diesen sauber, damit die grossen Algen gedeihen können.

Beachworld ist nicht nur ein wissenschaftlicher Durchbruch sondern auch eine tolle Geschenkidee.
